Consultancy to undertake study on Traditional Parenting and Child care Practices in Zambia
UNICEF Zambia is seeking to engage an insitution to undertake a study to document traditional parenting/child care practices and parenting support systems in Zambia
The purpose of the research consultancy is to support the Ministry of General Education ECE Directorate document traditional parenting/childcare practices and parenting support systems in Zambia.
The report and recommendations from this study will be used to strengthen ECD parenting programmes by blending local knowledge and practices with scientific knowledge on parenting and child care. The study will also look into existing parenting support systems and the extent to which these can be leveraged to influence parenting practices positively.
The consultant team will be expected to:
- Produce an inception report,
- Collect and analyse data on different parenting/child care practices in different cultural setting in Zambia
- Assess the identified local parenting/child care practices against the scientific evidence on early childhood development,
- Produce a final report which will be disseminated to relevant stakeholders.
Description of the assignment (Scope of work) / SPECIFIC TASKS
The scope of the consultancy involves undertaking a study on the traditional parenting child care practices and traditional support systems in Zambia. This will involve undertaking literature review on the studies that have already been done on traditional parenting/childcare practices; collect data from all the diverse cultural settings of Zambia and analyze the data against the scientific evidence on early childhood development. The literature review will include a review of existing data such as DHS and other data sets that provide relevant information on parenting practices and intra-household factors such as violence that impact on child care.
The consultancy team will be expected to develop an inception report with methodologies and instruments to be used with a clear work plan with timelines, and also submit a draft and final consultancy report
