Description
United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) on behalf of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), hereby invites qualified firms to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in the upcoming competitive bidding exercise for Provision of Minecraft modelling services for UN-Habitat's Global Public Space Programme. Since 2012, UN-Habitat has been working in partnership with Mojang, the creators of the popular computer game Minecraft. Through this partnership, called 'Block by Block', UN-Habitat is using Minecraft as a community participation tool in the design and implementation of public space building projects globally. Typical projects follow the following steps: 1. A Minecraft model of the existing space is constructed. 2. In partnership with the local authority and other local partners, UN-Habitat organises a design workshop or 'charette' in which members of the community are asked to redesign the public space using Minecraft. 3. The Minecraft models are used to influence discussions with stakeholders on how to redesign the space. 4. UN-Habitat and partners design and construct the space influenced by the Minecraft work. Taking into considration recent technological developments in GIS and Minecraft, UN-Habitat would like to improve and automise the workflow for constructing Minecraft models using GIS data. This workflow is expected to include a combination of tools to ingest different forms of GIS datasets into Minecraft, view and interact with Minecraft models in a web browser, simplify and support the manual Minecraft construction process and construct Minecraft models. UN-Habitat envisions that interested parties may provide all or some of these services and tools. The Global Public Space Programme works with multiple projects globally, some which are annually planned and others which are decided on an ad-hoc basis. Some projects relate to small, individual public spaces, whereas others relate to neighbourhoods, or increasingly, whole cities. A flexible, moduler service is therefore needed. UN-Habitat envisions that some providers may be more suited to providing GIS services and others more suited to support the manual Minecraft construction process. Interested vendors may forward their Expressions of Interest (EOI) along with the signed vendor forms to pdnairobi@unon.org. All EOI submissions should be sent via email, citing the EOI reference number and title in the subject line. UNON reserves the right to change or cancel the requirement of this EOI at any time during the EOI and/or solicitation process. Thus, submitting a reply to this REOI does not automatically guarantee your company will be considered for receipt of the solicitation when issued. Only Vendors which in UN's sole discrition are deemed eligible and qualified upon completion of an objective evaluation of their EOI submissions may receive the final tender solicitation documents.
