Reactivation and restoration of the heating system in the Odesa Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior
United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) hereby invite qualified companies to submit sealed tenders as follows:
In August-September 2023, the UNESCO International Expert Mission to Assess Damage to Cultural and Religious Sites in Odesa assessed 47 buildings damaged due to the repeated attacks since July 2023. Among them, the Odesa Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior, which represents a significant religious site of Odesa, legally protected as monument of local significance, was hit by a missile on 23 July 2023. The building is located on one of the city’s central squares, Soborna Square, and plays a compositional role in its urban planning scheme and is located within the World Heritage property “The Historic Centre of Odesa”. The building was rebuilt (1999-2005) after its destruction (1936) in the neoclassical architectural style, in reference to its reconstruction in 1903.
The overall technical conditions of the building were assessed as not suitable for normal operation. Based on the preliminary assessment the current state of the heating system of the upper part of the cathedral is also not suitable for normal operation (the old existing heating pipes of the upper part of the building are in the floor screed, concretised at a depth of about 20 cm. There is no access to them. The cast iron radiators are slagged as a result of prolonged use. The existing fan-coils were put out of operation after an explosion following the missile attack). The state of the heating system of the lower church is better compared to upper: existing heating floor is operating state, but the pumps need to be replaced, but the cast iron radiators are also slagged and needs to be replaced by bimetal one’s
Under the direct supervision of the Kyiv Desk in Ukraine and within the framework of the project “Urgent provision of a protective roof for the Transfiguration Cathedral in Odesa”, the contractor shall perform the following works:
1. Reconstruction of the individual heating point
2. Reconstruction of the heating system of the upper temple
3. Reconstruction of the heating system of the -1st floor (at -3.000)
4. Reconstruction of the heating system -2nd floor (at -6.000)
5. Heating system of the bell tower
6. Automation and dispatching
Duration of the contract: 2 months, at latest until 15 February 2025.
Detailed information and supporting documents shall be provided separately, to bidders expressing their interest.
A visit to the site is mandatory for the bidders’ eligibility. To register for the site visit, interest must be expressed to s.grussinger@unesco.org (copying o.deineko@unesco.org) no later than 21 November 2024, 17:00 (Kyiv time). Each bidder shall bear the costs of their own visit.
