BACKGROUND

The “Survey of salt levels in street foods and strategic communication to strengthen salt reduction action in Malaysia” project is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the George Institute for Global Health Sydney Australia, and the World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Malaysia. To effectively communicate Salt Reduction messages and interventions to the Malaysian public, the project has initiated a Social Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) strategy that would facilitate the desired goal of achieving a 30% reduction in average salt intake (from 8.7 g/day to 6.0 g/day) of the adult Malaysian population by 2025. This proposed work is categorized under the said SBCC strategy.

 

PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY

The primary purpose of this contract is to understand the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of the population in Malaysia regarding salt intake, and to evaluate the impact of various communications materials developed to support the Salt Reduction Behavioral Change Communication Strategy.

 

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT

Output 1: Design the pre and post panel surveys

  • • Deliverable 1.1: To provide a proposal detailing the research methodology that includes the survey design, data collection process and data analysis that will measure the impact of the SBCC on the respondents’ Knowledge Attitude and Performance (KAP) of salt reduction
  • • Deliverable 1.2: To provide a sample of the survey questionnaire to be approved by the WHO and MOH

Output 2: Reports submitted.

  • • Deliverable 2.1: To produce a report containing the results of the surveys

Output 3: Presentation of the findings from the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning plan.

  • • Deliverable 3.1: To provide a written and visual analysis of the baseline and end-of-campaign survey results, to be presented to WHO and MOH

 

METHODS TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITY

The selected vendor will work under the guidance of WHO Representative Office in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore and the Non-Communicable Diseases Division (NCD) of the Ministry of Health Malaysia.  The vendor will design and implement multiple surveys and collect and analyse data to understand the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the population and evaluate the activities implemented.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • • A registered company or institution
  • • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of undertaking market research and panel survey projects.
  • • Proven track record in completing research projects.

EXPERIENCE

Essential: Research-based company or institution with technical expertise in market research and panel surveys that fulfil the following conditions of eligibility.

LANGUAGES
Fluent in written and spoken English and Malay.
