Description

BACKGROUND

The WHO Western Pacific Regional office have addressed the need on the lack of generic public health related images to illustrate the work done in the Region by developing the Multimedia Library database or MML. In order to make these photos available to WHO staff, its partners and Member states, the MML database was made available via online access (http://multimedia.wpro.who.int/ ).

The Multimedia Library (MML) database is supporting and promoting the work of WHO in the Western Pacific Region by providing public health related images. MML has also been supporting the COVID-19 pandemic response through the dissemination of recently captured images that are relevant for use in information products and documents to WHO staff and stakeholders at country, regional and global level.

PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY

There is a rising demand for the use of photos in WPRO’s Multimedia Library and the submission of images (and some videos) has been increasing which will now require processing with effective quality controls. The photos required publishing in the MML system for retrieval and dissemination. Keywords indexing is required to enable the photos to become more accessible, discoverable and searchable to the MML users. Almost 17,000 photos are currently published and available on the MML.

A professional librarian with indexing expertise and skills is needed to assist in the indexing, tagging and quality control of subjects/keywords in line with the current specifications of the MML’s search functionality. This APW will support the indexing and metadata entry of keywords/subject criteria required for uploading and inclusion of around 2000 to 2500 photographs in the Multimedia Library database (MML). The APW work shall be done offsite.
