To provide technical support and capacity development to Lao Tropical & Public Health Institute (TPHI) and resources to engage community in increasing uptake of essential RMNCAH services
BACKGROUND
Ministry of Health and Ministry of Home Affairs have been conducting workshops with selected provincial and district governors on strengthen local governance for COVID-19 preparedness and Primary Health Care (PHC) beyond COVID-19 with support of UNDP and WHO. The two ministries have agreed to further support the provinces and districts to improve community engagement for strengthening PHC. Lao TPHI is supporting this initiative through generating evidence on effective community engagement and MCH Center is translating the evidence into interventions to improve community engagement for strengthening PHC, in particular increasing uptake of essential RMNCAH services and integrated provision of RMNCAH services in primary health care level.
PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY
To provide technical support and capacity development to Lao Tropical & Public Health Institute (TPHI) in developing social science approaches to capture information necessary to understand needs and resources to engage community in increasing uptake of essential RMNCAH services. The consultant shall consider good practices on integrated service delivery of RMNCAH and how quality and satisfaction of RMNCAH health services contribute to increased uptake.
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT
- • Meeting with WHO teams and MOH counterparts
- • Document and literature review
- • Conducting training
- • Field tip
METHODS TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITY
- • Develop design on an approach, training materials
- • Develop tools to collect necessary data and to conduct participatory workshops
- • Deliver training and capacity development
- • Implement field tests and feedback of findings
- • Analyze results and generate recommendations to MCHC
- • Assist designing the interventions by MCHC
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
Essential:
- Master’s degree or its equivalent in anthropology or social science
EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- • At least five years of experience in health program / social science research is essential.
- • Previous experience working in Lao PDR required.
TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- • Sound knowledge of Lao cultural and social norms.
- • Initiative and adaptability to work in developing countries.
- • Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
LANGUAGES
- Excellent knowledge of spoken/ written English and spoken Lao is required.
